SYNOPSIS
 
Im Mittelpunkt des Film steht die Annäherung an Christian Lagny, einen ehemaligen Schausteller aus Südfrankreich und Onkel des Filmemachers. Er lebt in Canet, einem kleinen Dorf in der Nähe von Montpellier allein in einem Wohnwagen, neben seiner Mutter. Ein weiterer Protagonist ist sein Schwager und aktiver Schausteller Luc Archer.
 
Ausgangspunkt sind Interviews über die Schaustellerrei, die Veränderungen in diesem Beruf, die Besonderheiten, die dieses Leben unterwegs mit sich bringen.
Auf einer weiteren Ebene werden persönliche Erinnerungen des Filmemachers an seine Sommer auf den Rummeln reflektiert. Er geht aus von den ersten Eindrücken der Dorffeste heute und unternimmt eine visuelle Zeitreise, die ihn über die Drehzeit von drei Jahren immer wieder zu seinem Onkel führt.
Man lernt Christian Lagny kennen und die Gespräche dringen immer mehr ins Persönliche vor. Mit großer Offenheit spricht er über seine Positionen, Wünsche und Verfehlungen.
Warum hat er aufgehört mit der Arbeit? Warum lebt er allein? Wie sieht er die familiäre Entwicklung? Nimm er sich als gescheitert war? Wie kann man sein Leben wieder in den Griff bekommen?
Ein Leben geprägt von Tradition und Arbeit, voller Widersprüche, Anekdoten, und einer großen Herzlichkeit entfaltet sich peu à peu.

SYNOPSIS
 
This film is an approximation to Christian Lagny, former owner of a dodgem cars and oncle of the filmmaker. Until a few years ago Christian Lagny used to travel from village to village and work on the funfairs in south of france. Now he lives in the small village „Canet“ not far from Montpellier in an old Camper just beside his mother. The second protagonist of the film is his brother in law Luc Archer, who is still working as a fairground worker.
 
Starting point are interviews in which the two men tell about the funfair buissness, the changes and the particularities of the life on the road. The interviews advance more and more in personal details and the story of Christian Lagny’s life. With great frankness he reveals his opinions, wishes and mistakes.
Why did he stop working? Why is he living alone? How does he judge the family changes? How can he get his life cleared out? A life between tradition and work, full of inconsistencies, anecdotes and great cordiality unfolds step by step.
 
In a further level of the film the filmmaker reflects on personal memories: The summers spent on the funfairs and his relation to his oncle.
Starting from his first impression of the funfairs today and goes through a visual time-travel that takes him closer to his oncle.
