Steffen Ramlow was born in Berlin in 1974. Since 1993 he works as an independent photographer, cameraman and lighting designer for various theaters and off-theater groups in Berlin, Hamburg and Wolgograd. In 1998 he begins his studies in visual communications at the Universität der Künste (UDK), Berlin; in 2000 he also takes up studies in experimental media and film at the UDK. He studies with Haroun Farocki and Heinz Emigholz.
In the same year he founds the gallery and art space LICHTSCHLIFF – bilder & töne – berlin. He works as curator and exhibition organizer. In 2001 publication of the photo book “Der Taktstock”, Zsolnay Verlag. His works are shown on various international filmfestivals i.g. in IDFA Amsterdam, 25FPS Zagreb or Tekfestival in Rom. He works and lives in Berlin.
